Where Are The Teachers?
A report in the New York Times states that there will be a shortage of teachers over the next four years. Beginners are driven away by low pay and unsatisfactory work conditions while veterans are leaving due to retirement policies that encourage them to move from pay check to pension. Even if the recession may help to attract more graduates and career changers, to be more insightful is to develop retirement systems that allow retired teachers to mentor new teachers.
